The Benefits of Christian Meditation

More and more Christians are learning the value of Christ-centered meditation or spending quiet time with God to  recenter, rejuvenate their spirit, and reconnect or check in with God on a daily basis. As the demands and pulls of our daily routine begin to call to us in the wee hours of the morning. It is essential that we make time to nurture our spirits and refocus our attention on what really matters in our lives. When we neglect to do so, we begin to live by default; we are alive, but not really living. Below are several more benefits that come from Christian meditation or dwelling in God’s presence.

A Closer Understanding of God

The Bible says that they who worship God must worship Him in spirit and truth. Sometimes I think Christians forget this verse, because the majority of us try to worship God by doing or action.  We have been led to believe that the more we do for God, the more faithful we are. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. God wants fellowship with us and out of this fellowship will come meaning doing or activity based solely upon God’s purpose and leading in “our” life. However, until we become still before the Lord and open the door of our hearts unto Him, we never receive the fullness of his Spirit, wisdom, love, peace, joy, and understanding. Psalms 46:10 says, “be still and know that I am God.”  So what is the requirement of knowing God. He said it himself, “Be still.”

A Deeper Appreciation of The Waking Life

How many Christians do you know who live on autopilot? Maybe you are one of them. You start your day the same every morning and end it the same every evening. Routine is good, but are you taking on all the love, joy, peace, and blessings all around you? Do you even notice them or are you so bogged down with the grind of your daily life that these large and small blessings literally go unnoticed. You’ve heard the saying, “stop and smell the roses.” Christian meditation is like saying, ”stop and appreciate the blessings” in your life. You are a child of God!

 Improved Focus and Energy

How do you stay focused? I have realized that the older I get it that seems that my to-do list just gets bigger and bigger. So how do I priortize or decide what needs my attention and what is just a waste of my time. As a business owner I am constantly being pulled in many directions. If I am not careful I can wear myself too thin and not accomplish my truest values and goals. Being still before the Lord and taking my agenda to Him each day, helps me to set priorities and eliminate those tasks that may not be in alignment with God’s will for my day or life. This allows me to put my full energy and attention on what matters most. It also gives me a much clearer picture of the world and keeps thoses small things getting me  down. I can take a moment to remind myrself that the world is much bigger than my car payments and the frustrations at the job, and this makes everything so much easier to deal with.

Better Living, Better Life

In Christian meditation, you do not simply sit there and empty your mind, but rather, you contemplate the love, joy, peace, and grace of God. You let go off all that burdens you and you offer it up to God in faith, surrender, and sacrifice. The apostle Paul said, “I die daily.” Christian meditation is our daily attempt to die to ourselves and put on the spirit of Christ. Paul said, it is in Him, Christ, that I live and move and have my being. This is the goal of every Christian, to decrease, so that He can increase. To become less, so He can become greater. To become weaker, for in our weakenss, He is made strong.
